Since February 2020, 1.1 million women who left the labor force have yet to return, reported the Washington Post. Gayle Kaufman, a professor of sociology and gender and sexuality studies at Davidson College, said about the recent United States jobs reports, “I still don’t think the labor market is built for anyone who wants to have a life outside of work.”
Kaufman hit on an emerging trend. The traditional 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., five-days-a-week full-time, permanent job may one day be a bygone memory. The gig economy has grown exponentially and boomed during the pandemic. These are the temporary, flexible type of roles that could be with an app-based tech company, such as Instacart, Lyft, Uber, Upwork or an ever-growing list of others.
