This month, Free Trade Europa released its Future of Work Study 2024. In it, they highlighted the rise of the self-employed freelance economy across three perspectives: individuals, companies, and government policy.

Europe has seen a steady rise in freelancing since 2007, when Xenios Thrasyvoulou created PeoplePerHour. The European Commission states that 43 million people in the EU are expected to be freelancers by 2025, and Malt’s Freelancing In Europe 2024 study shows that 61% of freelancers report no current interest in changing to a full-time role.
