The $2 trillion federal stimulus package passed on March 27th allowed for gig and freelance workers to apply for state unemployment benefits for the first time. But nearly three weeks later, it’s anyone’s guess as to when they will actually receive them.
“You feel like you failed. Because nobody wants to ask for help, and then you try to ask for help and nobody answers you,” Beth Ballinger said.
Ballinger has driven for Uber the last two years. The mother of five says she’s had little to no riders during the state’s stay at home order.
