When taxes got delayed from April 15 to July 15 this year, lots of people thought that would give them plenty of time to get taxes done on time. But if you’re a true procrastinator you knew all along that the extra time would be squandered and the deadline would loom with no work done. Most of the time, a true procrastinator will just file for the automatic extension and face the deadline one more time.
But there’s a better way for the savvy procrastinator.
This year, before you file your extension, pretend that you’re going to file your taxes by the midnight, July 15 deadline. Gather all the necessary papers, including:
- W2 or 1099 forms
- 401K forms
- 1098 Mortgage interest statements
