There’s a growing crisis in leadership development. It’s not a question of talent or technology. It’s a question of time.
Gallup’s latest research published in Q1 2025 offers some startling numbers:
- 41% of employees cite the time demands of their job as the biggest barrier to learning and development.
- 37% of managers say time away from daily responsibilities is the main obstacle to supporting employee development.
- 89% of chief human resource officers report that time away from the job is the biggest challenge to employee participation in learning opportunities.
The signals are clear across every level. Employees aren’t disinterested. They are overwhelmed. Managers aren’t withholding support. They are battling the same scarcity. Even CHROs see it plainly: time, not willingness, is the real roadblock to development.
