If you were lucky enough to keep your job over the past year and a half, the pandemic likely still had a profound impact on how you work (and still does). But even though hybrid work has likely been the biggest impact for the still-employed, those without full-time work have embraced the gig economy like never before.
According to a recent study by Wage, which, not surprisingly, makes a gig-management app of the same name, the number of gig workers has grown to more than 1.1 billion worldwide, with 55 million of those toiling in the US. The pandemic was a big driver here—it caused unemployment to climb to 14.8%, which in turn spurred 12% of the US workforce to pick up gig work for the first time.
