A recent article from security firm Checkpoint reveals that email scams impersonating well-known brands represent an ongoing threat – a situation that all SMBs should be aware of.
According to the report, in the last quarter, Walmart was imitated in 39% of all phishing attempts. Other well-known brands that were imitated in the same period included Microsoft and Wells Fargo. These scams are especially prevalent in email messages that try to get recipients to take action, because they are represented as coming from sources like Amazon where there is a lot of consumer activity, or LinkedIn where business-to-business communication happens constantly.
