More than five years after the COVID-19 pandemic started, Michigan says it overpaid on unemployment benefits and is now demanding that money back.
The Unemployment Insurance Agency, or UIA, says about 350,000 workers are required to return what they thought was free assistance.
A judge ruled the UIA could resume collections at the end of September following a class-action lawsuit, but it’s leaving some Michiganders facing financial ruin.
