The Minneapolis City Council approved an ordinance that will offer protections to freelance workers and independent contractors.
According to the city, more than 33% of independent contractors who responded to a survey said they lost income in the last 12 months due to “a hiring party’s failure to pay, underpayment or late payment for work performed.”
The new ordinance requires that businesses that hire freelance workers confirm work agreement in writing.
