After three months of solid job growth, June marked a somewhat weaker month for the U.S. labor market as employers added 57,000 jobs and data from previous months was revised downward, the Labor Department said July 2.
The health care and social assistance sectors remained reliable engines of job growth, and the professional and business services industry also experienced gains. Still, the 57,000 estimate fell short of analysts’ consensus expectation of 110,000 jobs added in June. The unemployment rate ticked down to 4.2% after holding steady at 4.3% for three months.
