For millions of Americans who rely on Social Security, even a small change in the annual cost-of-living adjustment can affect monthly budgets, household spending, vacations and retirement planning.

That’s one reason searches for terms such as “2027 Social Security COLA estimate,” “2027 COLA forecast” and “how much will Social Security increase in 2027” have surged as new projections emerge ahead of the official COLA announcement, which Social Security recipients won’t learn officially until October.

New forecasts released after recent inflation data are giving retirees an early glimpse of what next year’s increase could look like, and the latest projections suggest it may exceed the 2.8% boost beneficiaries received in 2026.
