With the rise of generative AI, many freelancers worry about the future. Research from Leapers found that 52.5% are concerned about the threat of AI to their work, and 33.2% feel their career has already been negatively impacted by AI. In fact, a survey from ProCopywriters found that 64% of freelance writers would turn off generative AI completely if they could.
There is, however, a silver lining for freelancers amid the rise of AI. A new, slightly ironic type of work is emerging (though it may not be the kind of work they were hoping for): fixing AI’s mistakes. Data from Upwork has found that jobs asking humans to fix, refine or finish AI-generated work are up 70% year over year.
Upwork found that this growth is even more pronounced for software and creative work, where AI-remediation job posts have grown 8.3x and 7.9x, respectively, since 2023.
