For the Girl Scouts of Western New York, Saturday was a test run in learning how to run a business.
The Girl Scouts hosted the first MakeHER Fair, a pop-up market designed to give girls the chance to pitch, showcase, and sell their business ideas to the community. Tables were filled with bracelets, lemonade, keychains, pens, jewelry, and pressed soaps to name a few.
The girls tabled alongside female entrepreneurs who have launched businesses of their own, which organizers say was the whole idea of the day.
“We want them to see themselves as business owners, their own CEOs. They’re in charge,” said the chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of WNY, Cara Biddlecom. “To be able to be placed next to women who have been in their shoes before and have been able to launch their own business, it’s really just the perfect opportunity for us.”
